Digital Technology and Production
Semester 2, Spring 2012
The objective of this module is communication. It isn't about Photoshop, or Lightroom, or MS Word or Powerpoint. It is about finding the right tool to communicate your ideas in the appropriate context. You don't use Powerpoint to talk to your boy/girlfriend, and you don't use Facebook to distribute images to clients.
Module Plan
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the digital skills they will require to meet the demands of the course. Students will be required to complete a number of tasks for creating and presenting information using different applications. Your skills in those applications will be a significant part of your prospects for employment.
The overall goal is to create a collaborative project that critically examines the skills and topics most important to your first year on the BA photography program.
What preparation did you do before this course?
What are the most important topics you covered in the first term?
What would you suggest to students thinking about taking this course?
Did you do you best photography for course projects or for personal work?
As a group we have to decide how to present your best work: academic essays, photography for projects, and personal work.
The first question is to decide what method of online distribution we will use. I see three options: individual Flickr accounts, a single blog we all contribute to, or individual blogs from Wordpress or Tumblr. On the first day you'll have to decide what is the best route.
You can go to Wordpress.com or Tumblr.com and create a free account. See which method looks best, and why.
